Call for papers – craft conference

Well I have to be the first to admit that it’s been a while since I last posted and my apologies for that. Hopefully I won’t be trailing off for such a long period of time again. I can assure it was with good reason which I’ll explain in a later post but for now here’s a posting I’ve just received for a conference at the University of Helsinki.

They’re calling for papers for the International Conference, Crafticulation and Education to be held on the 24−26 of September 2008. The Conference is hosted by the University of Helsinki, Department of Home Economics & Craft Science.

From their website:
“The conference theme is constructed under the new concept of CRAFTICULATION (craft + articulation); how the culture of craft is constantly made, unmade, and remade. We understand craft+articulation broadly: from the processes of self-expression to the cultural practices. We hope that in the end of a conference we have multiple readings of the phenomenon of craft, i.e. multiple articulations of craft, as well as articulations of the concept of crafticulation. Moreover, we would also like to encourage papers concerning the various educational contexts of craft.

We are calling for papers on any area of research on:

Craft & health, healing, beauty
Gender & Craft Education
Craft Design Technology
Web-crafts & Cultures
Domesticity & Crafts
Craft-based Design
Crafts 365

Abstracts should contain no more than 250 words, and the curriculum vitae should be no more than one page. Please send your abstract and CV and any other queries by e-mail to leena.kaukinen [at] helsinki.fi or by mail to Dr. Leena Kaukinen, Professor in Craft Science, University of Helsinki, P.O.Box 8 / Siltavuorenpenger 10, 00014 UNIVERSITY OF HELSINKI, FINLAND

The deadline of the abstracts is 15. December 2007. All paper proposals will be refereed by an academic jury and the successful applicants will be notified by 1 February 2008.”
