Jonathan Watkins (Chair), Director of Ikon Gallery, Birmingham The Daiwa Foundation Art Prize is an open submission prize which offers a British artist a first solo exhibition in Japan. In its inaugural year, the prize resulted in a solo show at the Tomio Koyama Gallery in Tokyo for Marcus Coates. Scai the Bathhouse in Tokyo will be the partner organisation for the 2012 exhibition. In addition, the winner will be awarded a £5,000 participation fee plus travel and accommodation costs for a 7 day period in Japan to coincide with the opening of the exhibition in Autumn 2012. The Prize is open to British artists resident in the UK who have neither had nor are planning a solo exhibition in Japan. The Prize is open to artists working in any medium including painting, photography, print, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, installation and moving image.
