Introduction to Paper Kilns: Building and Firing at Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery
September 15 & 22, 2012

Building and firing a paper kiln is an exciting and dynamic
alternative to other smoke and woodfire ceramic techniques. Lead by
ceramic artists Becky Webster and Natalie Prevost-Mero, this two-day workshop designed for people with some ceramics experience. The firing at dusk will be open to all!

September 15th – 1:00 to 6:00pm

September 22nd – 6:00 to 10:00pm

On day one, potters will bring two or three bone dry small pots and
apply terra sigillata to the surfaces.  The same afternoon the course
participants will also build the paper kiln using an armature, wood,
newspaper and clay slip. Pots will be bisque fired between sessions. On
day two participants will decorate pots with colour enhancing materials.
The kiln will then be loaded with the participants’ pots and will be
fired at dusk. The colour enhancing materials will create unique fire
surface.
