The School of Art and Design, New York State College of Ceramics at
Alfred University is seeking candidates for a tenure track faculty
position in the Division of Ceramic Art at the assistant professor rank
with an emphasis in functional pottery, vessel, and design.

The Division of Ceramic Art, within the School of Art and Design at
Alfred University, has a distinguished history as a premier institution
for education in the arts and fosters a comprehensive,
multi-disciplinary environment for research and practice. The Division
of Ceramic Art is comprised of six full time faculty, a teaching
fellowship, a rotating international chair, and three full time
technicians. The scope of the Division of Ceramic Art is wide-ranging,
embracing history and innovation, tradition and emerging forms of visual
art. The material intensive curriculum develops skill and intellect
through theory, technological research and creative practice.
Undergraduate and graduate programs are strongly intertwined. In our

The Division of Ceramic Art seeks a dynamic artist who will
participate in shaping the future of ceramic art at Alfred. The
successful candidate will have an active exhibition record and growing
prominence in the field; three years teaching experience or equivalent
preferred; salary will be commensurate with experience. We are seeking
applicants immersed in one or any combination of the genres: functional
pottery, ceramic vessel, design, industrial design, or forms at the
intersection of all these. While the applicant’s relationship to
material specificity or plurality may be open and variable, interested
candidates should possess a strong background in ceramic methodology,
with an ability to speak to contemporary practice across genres.
Additionally, we encourage applications from studio artists with any of
the following competencies or interests: craft/art/cultural theory;
glaze chemistry/material science; digital methodologies/technologies;
program conceptualizing and building. A strong commitment to
undergraduate and graduate education is expected. We invite applicants

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include an M.F.A. in studio art or design or
its equivalent, an active professional creative practice including a
record of exhibitions and projects beyond the local and regional level.
Three years previous college-level teaching experience is preferred.

Artist/Ceramics: The Robert Chapman Turner Teaching Fellow in Ceramic Art

The School of Art and Design in the New York State College of
Ceramics at Alfred University is seeking candidates for The Robert
Chapman Turner Teaching Fellow in Ceramic Art. The Turner Teaching
Fellow will be an emerging artist with an MFA or equivalent degree.
Broad-based knowledge of contemporary art is expected. Prior teaching
experience is welcome. The fellowship is non-tenure track and renewable
up to three years. The fellowship is $35,000 per year, plus a stipend up
to $3,000 per year for professional development.  A studio space will
be provided with full access to ceramic facilities.

Established in honor of Robert Chapman Turner, distinguished
Professor Emeritus at Alfred, the Turner Teaching Fellowship is a
full-time faculty position within the Division of Ceramic Art. All
ceramic genres are eligible for consideration. Teaching responsibilities
will consist of classes at the undergraduate level. The candidate’s
area of expertise will factor into the teaching assignments.

Required: MFA or equivalent degree; emerging record of
scholarly/creative productivity appropriate to teaching at the college
level; ability to work collaboratively within the department, the
school, the university, and the community; to communicate with and
mentor students on all levels. Preferred: Experience teaching and
advising students.
