Aligning with Canada’s 150th anniversary, the Biennial will serve as a spotlight to celebrate and educate the public and craft professionals alike about the importance that Craft plays in our everyday lives. The biennial will provide historical contextualization of Canadian craft practise and offer critical insight into its future.
Comprising of four exhibitions and a two day conference, the Canadian Craft Biennial, in its inaugural year celebrates with Canada’s 150th anniversary, serving as a spotlight to celebrate and educate the public and craft professionals alike about the importance that Craft plays in our everyday lives. The biennial will provide historical contextualization of Canadian craft practise and offer critical insight into its future.

The two-day symposium is where scholars and enthusiasts alike will come together to discuss a wide variety of topics related to the exhibition. Over two days split between Burlington on September 15th and Toronto on September 16th, participants will have the chance to learn, discover, and gain insight into the past and future of Canadian craft. |

The
Salt Spring Arts Council (SSAC) and the Artist in Residence steering
committee are pleased to announce the second year of the Artist in
Residence (AiR) Program on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia.
The
Artist in Residence (AiR) Program provides an opportunity for artists to
work in the vibrant arts environment of Salt Spring Island. The program
is open to all professionals working in the arts, in any genre or
medium, at any stage of their careers. AiR encourages applications from
artists of diverse cultural and regional backgrounds. The intent is to
provide the time and space for creativity and productivity and to
introduce visiting artists to Salt Spring Island and its arts
community.
Residencies
will be awarded based on available facilities, potential links to the
Salt Spring community, collaborative opportunities and artistic merit.
Applications for the AiR program can be submitted on or before April 15, 2017 for tenure between October 2017 and April 2018.

CeramAiR
(Ceramics Artist Residency) provides ceramic artists the ability to
work in a supportive community environment of like-minded individuals,
to share their expertise and vision, to inspire excellence and create
work at the highest level in a nurturing and creative environment. The
artist is provided with accommodations at the Caetani Centre, and is
also provided with use of a shared studio workspace and equipment at the
Vernon Community Arts Centre operated by the Arts Council of the North
Okanagan.
- Deadline to Apply: August 28, 2016
- Successful applicants will be notified September 2016
- Residency: January 3 – April 13, 2017
- Solo exhibition: March 28 – April 11, 2017
