The second edition of Ceramics Now Exhibition presents at Galateea Gallery, Bucharest, the works of 22 contemporary ceramic artists from 9 countries – Romania, USA, Canada, Israel, Italy, Ireland, United Kingdom, South Korea and Poland. The works of the Romanian artists who are presented in the exhibition are an addition to the 15 works that were exhibited in December 2011 at The Paintbrush Factory, Cluj-Napoca.

Through this exhibition, Ceramics Now Magazine is trying to bring together and open a dialogue between contemporary ceramic artists from all over the world – all working in different techniques and approaching a variety of subjects and motifs. The international exhibition “Ceramics Now” is an itinerary exhibition of contemporary ceramics which presents works that are featured in the issues of Ceramics Now Magazine. The goal of the exhibition is to raise visibility of contemporary ceramics in Romania. The exhibition reunites artists from different countries and communities, and facilitates contact between them and the public. Ceramics Now Magazine and Exhibition operate as an exchange platform between artists, galleries, museums, collectors and people passionate about art.

Ceramics Now Magazine is a comprehensive and innovative quarterly publication specialized in contemporary ceramics. Founded in 2011, the magazine features interviews, articles, reviews and works of emerging and world-renowned ceramic artists. It is distributed all over the world in a network of libraries, galleries, museums and institutions.

Reopened at the initiative of the Romanian Fine Arts Union in December 2011, Galateea Gallery is the first gallery of contemporary ceramics in Romania.

Galateea Gallery is located on 132 Victoriei Avenue, Bucharest, and is opened from Monday to Friday between 12 am – 8 pm, and on Saturdays between 11 am – 7 pm.

Variations on Symmetry – Installation works by Eliza Au & Ying-Yueh Chuang

Two ceramic artists, Eliza Au and Ying-Yueh Chuang transform the Art Gallery at Evergreen into a world where structure and symmetry, pattern and proportion define their art work, yet challenge the boundaries of their medium.

Exploring the symmetry of landscape, architecture, cycles of life and their relationships to the spiritual and natural world, Canadian artists Eliza Au and Ying-Yueh Chuang collaborate to alter the Art Gallery space with expressive ceramic and mixed media installations.

Variations on Symmetry runs April 13 – May 19 in the Art Gallery at Evergreen.

Join us at the opening reception, Sunday April 15, from 4 – 6pm. The artists will be in attendance. In addition, every Saturday* at 2pm, Evergreen’s Curatorial Assistant leads a free guided tour of the exhibition. (*No tour on April 21st).

For many contemporary artists working in clay sculpting representations of the human figure, associations with and references to the figurine are natural. Figurines, diminutive tabletop sculptures, representing man and or beast have lived in almost every home globally, regardless of place, culture or time. Early clay examples date back some 30000 years. Throughout time these figures have represented many things. From fertility icons to religious symbols, common man to Kings, from singular figures to ornate and complex compositions, these intimate sculptures commemorate(d) everyday and heroic acts, modern day folk and pop cultural figures, and historically significant events. Artists participating in Figure/Figurine include Christyl Boger, Jeremy Brooks, Anna Noel, Kensuke Yamada, Carole Epp, Beth Lo, Mathew Groves and Mara Superior. Each of these makers uses the history of the figurine to create works that live comfortably in our contemporary world.137-139 North Second Street
