Call for Submissions Cup: The Intimate Object XVII

Submission deadline: July 2, midnight Eastern
We are accepting submissions for Cup: The Intimate Object XVII, which we will host this fall. Each year this international exhibition brings together some of the most exciting handmade cups in contemporary ceramics. We welcome submissions by national and international artists in all stages of their careers, from current students and artists who are just emerging on the scene to those who are well established.
We require submissions to include exactly five outstanding cups that are the same ones you would send for the show if accepted. You can review all submission requirements and details under Gallery Submissions on our website. As usual it is free to submit cups for consideration for this exhibition.

Specifications:
The application is open to all artists 18 years and older. An artist may submit 1-3 original works, which have been completed in the last two years. Works not gallery-ready or not exhibiting good craftsmanship, may be omitted from the exhibit. Accepted works that differ significantly from the entry images or suffer from poor presentation will be disqualified.

Work may not exceed the dimensions of L–6” W–6” H–8” (including handle) or weigh over 2lbs, accurate weight is required.

Images should be submitted as jpegs and sized at 300dpi and 10 inches (3000 pixels) on its shortest side. Files should be labeled first name_last name_entry number (e.g. John Smith would be john_smith_2.jpg).

Media Restrictions:
Drinking vessels (cups, mugs, yunomis, tankards, tumblers, goblets, tea bowls, etc.) must be made primarily from clay and 100% functional with food safe glazes. Work may not exceed the dimensions of L–6” W–6” H–8” (including handle) or weigh over 2lbs, accurate weight is required. All exhibited work must be for sale. Selected pieces must be available for the duration of the exhibition.

Notification: 
Notification of accepted works will begin April 15th, 2021 through email. Artist’s contracts, label information and other documents will be included as attachments and must be returned prior to the show.

Opening Day:
Opening day will take place online at savannahclaycommunity.com on May 1st, 2021 and all work will be displayed until May 31st, 2021.

Shipping and Insurance:
The artist is responsible for the shipping and insurance of the work. Shipped works must be sent within a week of purchase notification. Artists will be informed of purchase no later than June 1st, 2021. No artwork may be removed from the exhibition until after the conclusion of the show.

Documentation:
On acceptance, the organizations and individuals retain the right to reproduce images all works displayed in the exhibition, regardless of copyright, for promotional or educational purposes. Images may be used for documentation, sales, promotion and publicity.

Entry Fee:
SAVCC members can apply for free. (Learn more about membership through our website.) Non-members pay $10.00 for up to 3 submitted works. Application fee should be submitted online with completed application at http://www.savannahclaycommunity.com/application.html  Savannah Clay Community will retain 10% from the retail price of any works sold during the duration of the show for continuing our mission and 10% for donation to the Emmaus House (see below).

The submitted entry form signifies the artist’s understanding and agreement with the terms and conditions stated herein.

Emmaus House:
The Emmaus House provides food and day services to the homeless and needy of Savannah and hosts the Annual Empty Bowl Event in November. Continuing on the theme of Empty Bowl, we want to use the ceramic arts to remind the community that the hungry should be considered year-round.

DEADLINE TOMORROW!!!! – Gulf Coast State College Amelia Center Gallery Cup Show

Thirteenth Annual Cup Show: “Form and Function”
Gulf Coast State College Amelia Center Gallery is hosting its annual juried exhibition that explores the idea of the
drinking vessel. The focus of the exhibit is on the function and concept of the drinking vessel, including its relation
to history, politics, craft, technology, utility, and narrative. It is a survey of the wide variety of approaches to
contemporary ceramics through the lens of the most intimate and accessible vessel – the cup.

Juror
Mike Cinelli Mike Cinelli is a ceramic artist, father and occasional husband residing in Taylor, Mississippi. His
work has been displayed nationally and internationally in numerous juried and invitational exhibitions, with work
displayed as far away as Skopelos, Greece, where he attended a one month residency at the Skopelos Foundation for
the Arts. He has received various jury awards, including the Studio Potter Merit Award. He was featured in the
August 2016 issue of Ceramics Monthly as a contributor to “From Idea to Finished Form”. Currently, he is
attempting to juggle his studio practice, being a father and husband, and maintaining a rigorous schedule of
complaining on the internet.

Prizes
$100 Best of Show prize will be awarded by the juror.

Eligibility
The exhibition is open to both functional and sculptural work that addresses the idea of “the cup”. Please submit
only original work that has been completed in the last three (3) years. Amelia Center Gallery reserves the right to
reject any work that is not suitably prepared for exhibition or that differs from the original submission.

Entries and Fees
Please submit your entries online via Smarter Entry at https://client.smarterentry.com/acg. Each artist may submit
up to three (3) images with the following specifications. Images must be saved as JPG, TIF, or PNG files not greater
than 2MB. The longest side should be 1,280 pixels or greater. The files should be titled with the artist’s first and last
name and entry number (example: SteveSmith1.jpg). All in one word, file names cannot have special characters.
Please do not submit any other materials (CV, resume, statement, etc.). All submissions are due October 15.
Description Please select your clay body from the dropdown menu and include a detailed description of firing and
decoration techniques in the Additional Notes window.

Entry Fee There is a non-refundable entry fee of $35 for up to three (3) entries. You may submit additional entries
for an extra fee of $5 per image. All fees are paid online via Smarter Entry https://client.smarterentry.com/acg.

Email notification will begin on October 28

Shipment of Work
All artwork must arrive at the Amelia Center Gallery no later than November 9. All shipping and insurance fees to
the exhibition will be the responsibility of the artist. Please pack cups in a well-secured package (double boxed),
with any special handling/packaging instructions clearly visible. Packaging will be reused for return shipment. The
Amelia Center Gallery will pay for return shipping and insurance of all unsold work. Our mailing address is

Commission
Amelia Center Gallery will receive commission of 30% on all sales.

Photography
Amelia Center Gallery reserves the right to photograph works, and use submitted photo materials of accepted
pieces for the purposes of documentation, education, publicity, promotion and future grant proposals.

Liability
Every precaution will be taken in handling the work. The gallery reserves the right not to exhibit work that is
deemed too fragile or not suitably prepared for presentation. The gallery will insure all works for the duration of the
show, and return shipping. Artists will be responsible for insuring work in transit to the galley. Submission of work
to this exhibition shall constitute an agreement to conditions set forth in this prospectus and permission to
reproduce work for the purposes of documentation, education, publicity and promotion.

call for artists: Twin Cups

The Missouri Western State University Clay Guild is sponsoring the National Ceramic Exhibition titled Twin Cups. The exhibition is open to all artists 18 years and older residing in the U.S.  Submitted artworks may be either functional or sculptural representations of a pair of cups, mugs, or drinking vessels, etc.  A $30.00 jury fee entitles each artist to submit a maximum of three entries (each entry consisting of a set of two).  Artworks must have been completed within the last two years.

Awards:
$500 – Best of Show
$200 – 1st Place
$100 – 2nd Place

Awards will be selected at the sole discretion of the juror.

Juror:  Becky Lloyd
My work uses a centuries old technique called sgraffito to create very intricate patterns and designs. Each piece of hand thrown porcelain is coated with a black terra sigillata slip. I then use a very sharp knife to cut into the slip to expose the white porcelain underneath. This technique allows me to indulge in my passion for design and challenge my skills at the same time.

Over the last few years my work has become more personal. A refuge. An expression of beauty, love and grief all at the same time. I have always had a keen interest in ancient civilizations and the incredible art they produced. Those ancient worlds hold endless inspiration for me and always will. But I am now looking inside myself. Searching. Searching for what I have lost. In late April of 2014, Steve my husband, partner in clay and life passed away unexpectedly of an undiagnosed heart condition. This man that I spent over 26 years of my life with was everything to me. He was always my biggest fan but I now know he was also my biggest inspiration. A true artist. An amazing potter. Never have I worked in the studio without him by my side. The pots we made together were an expression of the love we had for each other and our work. I cannot help but reflect on what was. It has shaped my life to what it is. Moving forward is inevitable, but in looking back and remembering I am carrying along memories and ideas of all that we had together. Now I must look inside and find the courage and grace to continue what Steve and I started together so long ago. Steve will always be in every piece I make and every piece I decorate. How could it be any other way?

Digital Images Submission:  Images should be submitted in JPG format.  Size images to 1920 pixels on the longest side at 300 dpi.  Images should be named using the following format:     First Initial_Last Name_ Submission #.JPG   (example:  J_Smith_1.JPG)
The MWSU Clay Guild reserves the right to use submitted images of artwork for publicity, documentation, education, and promotion. CD’s will not be returned.

Entry Fee:  $30.00 for three entries (each entry consists of 2 pieces).  After submitting your application online, your screen should display a print page (you will also receive an email).  Please print the page and send it with your check to complete the registration process to:

Sales:  The Clay Guild will take a 25% commission on sales made during the exhibition.

Rules:  All accepted work must remain for the duration of the show.  Submission of the entry form signifies the artist’s understanding and acceptance of the rules of the exhibit.

Opening:  Exhibition opens February 21, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  It will be held in the Potter Fine Arts Gallery located on the Missouri Western State University campus.  All artists are invited to attend.

Shipping:  Artists are responsible for shipping their work to and from the MWSU Potter Fine Arts Gallery and insuring it while in transit.  Shipped entries must be securely packed (No Styrofoam Peanuts) and sent in substantial reusable containers.  Double boxing is strongly recommended.  Accepted works should arrive at the gallery no later than February 12, 2020

Return Shipping:  Artists must provide a pre-paid return shipping label for the return of unsold items..  Artwork left with the gallery more than 30 days after the close of the exhibition, without return arrangements, will be deemed abandoned and become the property of the MWSU Clay Guild to do with as they will.
