A couple calls for entry from Mudfire Gallery

MudFire Gallery is issuing calls for ceramic artists for several exhibit opportunities for 2012.

Home or House

Invitational Group Show, 2-3 pieces each by 25 artists. We are seeking original clay works, both small-scale sculpture and illustrated studio pottery. The works in the show will focus on concepts of home, shelter, nesting, or dwelling places. We encourage a broad interpretation of the theme, not limited to anthropological concerns and welcoming the hidey-holes and getaways of all manner of creatures. Through clay we will explore “home” as a place to lay down or lure prey, to lounge calmly or retreat in panic, whether an impressive construction or simply a state of mind. Timeline: December 19, 2011, Submissions Due at MudFire for Consideration
December 23, 2012, Final Invitations Issued
January 6, Acceptance Deadline
February 17, Artwork Arrives at MudFire (early shipments welcome)
March 2, Show Opens

Pirates vs Zombies

Invitational Group Show, 3-5 pieces each by 20 artists. We are seeking original clay works, primarily illustrated studio pottery, though other incarnations of clay may be represented. The works in the show will represents pirate, the undead, or conflict & rivalry between the two groups. Which is the greater pop media phenomena? Who will win the battle for consumers hearts, minds, and wallets? Could Johnny Depp (in character of course) out-drink Rob Zombie? Is it possible to escape jail without a little monkey friend? What do brains taste like? Did the scandalous rogues of the high seas help us avert a little-known colonial-era zombie apocalypse? These are the sort of ridiculous questions we need your help resolving in clay. Timeline: January 27, 2012, Submissions Due at MudFire for Consideration
February 3, Final Invitations Issued
February 17, Acceptance Deadline
March 16, Artwork Arrives at MudFire (early shipments welcome)
April 13, Show Opens

#Occupy the Election

Invitational Group Show, 3-5 pieces each by 20 artists. We are seeking original clay works, primarily illustrated studio pottery, though other incarnations of clay may be represented. This show will take place while the Presidential election cycle is in full gear and top of mind. We’re curious what the Occupy movement will look like at that point, and if the issue of income inequality will have gained ground or retreated in the face of big money media manipulation. Either way, we’re giving it airtime. What do you have to say? Timeline: February 17, 2012, Submissions Due at MudFire for Consideration
March 2, Final Invitations Issued
March 16, Acceptance Deadline
May 11, Artwork Arrives at MudFire (early shipments welcome)
June 8, Show Opens

How to Apply

If you find the theme intriguing and would like to create work especially for the show, that’s peachy. With your submission, please indicate “Representative Work”, along with a detailed description of what you would be doing especially for the show. If you have existing work that suits the theme, wonderful! Indicate “Actual Work Submitted” in your application. If you have an artist website with current artist information and a gallery of recent work, you may respond by simply emailing us a link along with any other information you’d like us to consider. Please make sure that the website or email note includes pricing information. You may email us your submissions to our special submissions-only email box: [email protected].
