Assistant Professor, tenure track, Area Coordinator of Ceramics

TrackResponsibilities:Teach undergraduate B.F.A. (pending approval to begin fall
semester 2010), B.S., B.A. majors and non-majors courses in ceramics. Advise majors in Art + Design
with a track in ceramics. Teach in the M.F.A. program and serve on graduate committees. Build and
maintain a strong record of creative activity on a regional, national, and international level.
Participate in department, college, and University committees, as appointed. Oversee multiple spaces
and equipment in ceramic facilities; submit recommendations for the ceramic track course schedules;
and interview and recommend adjunct and part-time faculty.
Appointment:Ten-month appointment with the possibility of teaching assignments in minimester and summer for additional
compensation.
This position is contingent on funds being available at the time of hire.
This position requires a teaching load of 9 contact hours per semester during the first three
years.
Qualifications:M.F.A in ceramics, with knowledge of the history of ceramics, as
well as ceramics viewed in a contemporary context. Must introduce and support a range of processes
from traditional to new genre. The applicant needs to possess the ability to articulate best
practices in teaching and art environmental health and safety, provide evidence of successful
teaching and learning experiences, and have an active exhibition record. Interest in art and design
collaborations, civic engagement, and grant writing is a plus.
The Department of Art + Design, Art History, Art Education enrolls approximately 750 art + design, art history, and art
education undergraduate majors, 72 graduate students, and 100 minors. It also offers a variety of
non-major studio courses for the general education core. The department shares programs in museum
studies and graduate level art history with the College of Liberal Arts. The University, college,
and department support international programs, interdisciplinary partnerships, service learning, and
community-based art and design activities in Baltimore City and the region.
