ACAD Ceramics will host the annual 1000 Miles Apart conference this fall. The event will take place over three days, October 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The itinerary will present a series of exhibitions, artists’ demonstrations, presentations and social events to facilitate exchange and

dialogue.

This conference was organized about 20 years ago by faculty and students from the University of Manitoba and Red Deer College, Alberta. (The distance traveled inspired the name). Participating institutions later included the University of Regina and Alberta College of Art + Design. Each year the conference is organized collectively and rotates to the host institution for that year. It provides an excellent opportunity for students and faculty to meet and network. The conference maintains a valuable forum to develop and strengthen the community in the west. Along with University of Regina, Red Deer College, and University of Manitoba, students and faculty from nearby Ceramics Programs will also attend if possible, including Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Kootenay School of the Arts and the University of North Dakota.

This year Guest Artists will include Sam Chung, Andy Brayman, Emily Schroeder (ACAD’s incoming Visiting Artist/Instructor) and a keynote address by Robin Lambert. The annual highlight of the Students/Faculty exhibition of all participating institutions will be held in ACAD’s Gallery 371. A show and silent auction will be held in the Marion Nicholl Gallery on campus.
