Call for artists: Elizabeth R. Raphael Founder’s Prize

In 1997, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Society for Contemporary Craft, a $5,000 prize for excellence in the field of contemporary craft was established. The biennial award is given in conjunction with a catalogue, juried exhibition at SCC, and the acquisition of the winning piece for SCC’s permanent collection. This opportunity is funded by the daughters of Elizabeth R. Raphael, the founder of SCC and a nationally known figure in the contemporary art scene for many decades.

Sobey Art Award Announces Call for Nominations for $50,000 award for Canadian artist

The deadline for nominations is APR 1

The Sobey Art Award is officially accepting nominations for this year’s prize. The $50,000 award is Canada’s premier visual art award given annually to a Canadian artist under 40 who has exhibited in a public or commercial art gallery within 18 months of being nominated.

The five finalists of the 2011 Award will be announced in June, 2011. Selected work from the shortlisted artists will be featured in Halifax in an exhibition hosted by the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia from September 17th, 2011 and run until January 8th, 2012. The winner of the 2011 Sobey Art Award will be announced during a gala event at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in October 2011.

The 2011 curatorial advisory panel is made up of five distinguished representatives from a Canadian art gallery in each of the five regions: the Atlantic Provinces, Quebec, Ontario, the Prairies and the North, and the West Coast and Yukon.

Deadline for nominations: MAR 30 If so, here’s your opportunity to nominate him or her for one of Canada’s most prestigious awards for volunteerism in the arts: The Arnold Edinborough Award.

The Arnold Edinborough Award recognizes an individual young professional under the age of 40 who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and volunteerism in the arts. The Arnold Edinborough Award winner receives a unique work of art and $5,000 to donate to the arts organization(s) of his or her choice. The award is presented at the Business for the Arts Awards Gala and a separate party is held in honour of the winner. Nominations for the 2011 Arnold Edinborough Award are open! The nomination deadline is March 30th, 2011.

Craftsmanship: Concept: Innovation- Red Lodge Clay Center Inaugural Juried National

Red Lodge Clay Center, located in Red Lodge Montana, is celebrating five years of success with the introduction of a Bi-Annual Juried National. It is our mission to provide a place for professionally minded ceramic artists to create new work and share the collective importance of art in our everyday lives. The Center hopes to extend our mission by showcasing the most current and thoughtful innovations and practices in the field of ceramics today. Open to work under 50 lbs. made within the last two years. Entry fee. JUROR: Brad Schwieger has been teaching at Ohio University since 1990 and is presently a Professor of Art and Ceramics Area Chairman. Brad received his MFA degree from Utah State University and his BFA degree from the University of Iowa. Brad’s work has been shown nationally and internationally. His work has been in multiple exhibitions throughout the USA, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, England, Germany, Czech Republic, Lithuania and Spain. He has presented workshops and lectures at more than 80 Universities, Colleges and Art Centers. His work has been published in Ceramics Monthly, American Craft, Clay Times, Ceramics Art and Perception as well as several textbooks. MERIT AWARDS: Juror’s Choice Award $500

CRAFTS COUNCIL OF IRELAND’S IRISH CRAFT BURSARY AWARD 2011

The CCoI Irish Craft Bursary is awarded to professional craftspeople to support the creative development of their craft to enable new opportunities in their practice.

Applications for Bursary 2011
Bursary 2011 offers a prize fund of €10,000 awarded to a maker who demonstrates a commitment to producing craftwork that illustrates the attainment of the highest level of technical and design skill. The objective of the bursary is to give one or more makers the opportunity to develop a body of work that they would otherwise not have the time or resources to develop. Expressions of interest are welcomed from makers who feel this award would be of benefit to the development of their work.

Closing date for completed applications is October 1st 2010. Selection will take place in October and the announcement of successful applicant(s) will be made in early November.
