Russian revolutionary plate
Decorated
plate from St Petersburg. Neil MacGregor, Director of the British
Museum, explores the Russian Revolution by looking at a plate painted
with propaganda for the new Communist state. The plate was made at the
Imperial Porcelain Factory, St Petersburg, in 1901 but was decorated 20
years later in the same factory, which had become the State Porcelain
Factory in the newly-named city of Petrograd. With contributions by
Mikhail Piotrovsky and Eric Hobsbawn.

The Spark with Tift Merritt
Have you ever wanted to ask your favorite songwriter what
idea sparked the song you just can’t get out of your head? Award winning singer
songwriter Tift Merritt does just that with her podcast The Spark. Merritt’s
questions to her talented guests (Emmy Lou Harris, Rosanne Cash, and many more)
get straight to the heart of creativity and the craft of song writing.
Check out her interview with one of my favorite musicians Josh
Ritter. After listening to his episode I posted his quote, “ You have to become
a martyr for your own ideas”, to my studio wall. Visit
www.marfaspark.com for
more information or find the show on iTunes.
The Spark is a monthly interview program, hosted by Tift
Merritt. You can hear The Spark online and on air at KRTS, Marfa Texas Public
Radio.

Chase Jarvis Live–
Brandon Stanton- Humans of New York
“Listen in as photographer/director Chase Jarvis explores
art, creativity, and popular culture through his experiences and collaborations
with visionary creatives from around the world. “
I recommend starting with the Brandon Stanton episode. As
the creator of the Humans of New York project he set out to take 10,000
pictures in one year and ended up creating an Internet sensation. In the
interview he talks about his man-on-the-street interview style, his New York Times best selling book, and the art of
crafting a good question. He says of the project, “ If there is one thing that
I use as a gauge of how good a Humans of New York post is, its honesty, its
just honesty…Its not honesty versus lying, its honesty versus concealment. “
And please don’t forget that Ben Carter’s Kickstarter ends tomorrow. Please show him support for all the amazing work he does on the Tales of the Red Clay Rambler! Support Season 3 NOW!!!

State of the Reunion-
Contested
This weekly podcast uses stories of personal struggle to describe the cultural geography of an American community. I
love how SOTRU relies on unique personal experience to explore the universal
similarities of American life. In the episode, Contested, Host Al Letson and guest producer John Biewen use sports
as a jumping off point to discuss race and class in Durham, North Carolina.
