FORM AND FUNCTION: CERAMICS BY DESIGN

Tuesday March 27, 2012, 6:30 – 8 pm Speaker: Rachel Gotlieb, Senior Curator Rachel Gotlieb, design scholar and Senior Curator at the Gardiner Museum, initiates the new Form and Function series with a lively talk about the important role of the designer in historical and contemporary ceramics. From Christopher Dresser, Susie Cooper, Keith Murray to Hella Jongerius and Marcel Wanders, she will discuss how designers enhance the functionality as well as foreground new styles and aesthetics in ceramic objects.

‘stack stoves’ reinterpret the ancient tradition of ceramic stoves through new contemporary shapes, as well as fitting within the latest housing requirements, with low environmental impact. the ceramic stove line offers wood burning and pellet burning fireplaces. the fireplace and the recycler of the ‘stackstove’ can reach great yields and significant smoke emission parameters.

developed by adriano design and produced by la castellamonte, the hand-made ceramic ranges preserve and updates the industrial know-how and ancient traditions of this field.

The form factor allows the bowls to fit together perfectly and intuitively. the components bind together securely with the use of a natural cloth elastic strap, held in place between the bottom bowls’ feet.”
